Atty. Jun Pilares Announces Release of His First Book

Ateneo Law School (ALS) Professor and 2007 Bar Exams Second Placer, Atty. Ricardo “Jun” Pilares III, announced the release of his first ever book on Statutory Construction last May 9, 2019 in an event launch held at the Bernas Center, 4/F Ateneo Professional Schools. Various guests graced the momentous occasion, including his beloved family, friends, colleagues and students.

ALS Dean Jose Maria Hofileña and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Ma. Ngina Teresa Chan-Gonzaga delivered their remarks and expressed their warmest congratulations on another achievement unlocked by one of their own, Atty. Pilares.

Dean Melencio Sta. Maria of the FEU Law School, who was Atty. Pilares’ Civil Law Review Professor back when he was still an Ateneo law student, likewise delivered a speech reminiscing their good old days together and shared some useful tips about book publishing.

Present also in the event were Atty. Pilares’ beloved family — his wife and kids, parents, and siblings — who were very proud and supportive of another important milestone in the life of Atty. Pilares.

To culminate the occasion, Atty. Pilares extended his heartfelt gratitude to all who were present and have supported him in the process of writing his book. Special mentions were accorded to his wife, Atty. Richie Avigale Ramos-Pilares, for convincing him to finish the book, and to former ALS Dean Sedfrey Candelaria for helping him with the publication.

Atty. Pilares has been teaching Statutory Construction since 2008, and he thought that it would be a good time to put everything that he has learned about the subject together. This motivated and inspired him to write a book on Statutory Construction.

It was not an easy process, and it took him years of hard work and perseverance to finally come up with this masterpiece. I started way back in 2013, but stopped because of work, family and dealing with day-to-day stuff. I finished the first two chapters. Then last year, Richie convinced me to finish it, and with the help from Atty. Candelaria, I was able to submit my first draft to my publisher around July of last year,” he narrated.

When asked about the possibility of writing another book in the future, I pray that God gives me the time and energy to write a book on Conflict of Laws,” he said.

The book is available in all Rex Bookstores nationwide, particularly from our ever reliable Mang Nats.
